Soap Opera

Hello fellow internet users.

When analysing an episode of the soap opera Hollyoaks I will be writing about each main character and what place and story line they behold when taking place throughout the episode. I will also be discussing the structure and the technical elements throughout the episode.

When analysing the character in the soap opera Hollyoaks as this this form of programme has many different sub narratives within one main narrative this means that within a small village there are many different families which will tell the audience a different story. Within this episode that I will be analysing I am going to be looking at Lomax family. Within this family you have the main two sisters Leela and Tegan. Leela's character portrays a more dominant side of things as if she was to be in absolute control of every situation with no need to show her feels, where as Tegan's character is more vulnerable causing her to fall for the wrong men in her life as she's a much more weaker character.
Another family that I am going to be writing about would be the Hutchinson family as the charters within this family are Tony Hutchinson and Diane O'Connor. Diane O'connor character is very much portrayed the same way as Tegan Lomax's as she is very gullible and also have a bad past when dating men, she falls for anyone who is kind to her and can be blind when it comes to them lying to her. Diana also plays a very strong character when it comes to her children as she is a motherly person and always want's whats best for her children even if it's wrong. As where Tony Hutchinson can be seen as a weak character an can never do right by Diane and messing up any relationship they could have between each other as they share twins together.

The narrative within this episode is divided by three different point's. The first plot point that has been put into place would where Tony Hutchinson is missing his daughter which was swapped at birth and ia now living with Tegan Lomax, this is where he tries to intrude into the Lomax families life so that he is able to get closer towards Rose. As Tagan is feeling very vulnerable at this point she starts to form an idea into her head that her and Tony want to be together which benefits Tony into the trust of Tegan allowing him to visit his daughter and look after her throughout the day. The character Ziggy Rosco doesn't isn't to keen on the fact that Tony and Tegan are getting closer as he can sense that something is wrong, as Tegan is feeling very  Vulnerable at this point she doesn't believe Ziggy and thinks that Tony and her are great match causing her to fall for the wrong person once again.

The second plot point within this narrative would be when Diana finds out that Tony has been seeing baby Rose behind her back after making an agreement that each family would keep to the child that they have been given and now love. As Diane approaches Tony in a very angry motion causing a ruckus Tony explains that he has a plan where he will be able to get up close with Tegan so that both of them can see Rose whenever they want without anything stopping them.Diane wasn't too sure on the plan at first until she was given the chance to visit Rose for a whole, causing both Diane and Tony talking about giving them two another go whilst in their Local Pub. As Tony goes to place his hands on top of Dianes hands Tegan walking into the pub to go talk to Tony but then ends up having a full blown argument leaving them with never seeing Rose ever again. This causes the audience to be full obtained into the programme to see what would happen next between them as you are able to feel the full passion for their children.

When analysing the third plot point that has been created within this programme it is created to keep the audience on their toes wanting to watch what will happen in the next episode keeping them interested within the act as within a soap opera they don't finish a story line with a conclusion but with a cliff hanger. By doing so They have ended the episode with two different possibility of who could have kidnapped baby Rose when Tegan goes to pick her out of her pram noticing that she is missing.

The technical elements that have been used when creating Hollyoaks would be the use of lighting within the studio, as this is a studio production everything is very well lighten as they would have studio lighting all around the ceiling, this helps the audience to be able to focus on the action and the mood which has been set and they would have full control of how bright or how dark the lighting would be when filming. Other techniques which have been used when filming this programme would be the camera work as everything is all still they are able to gather many different shots such as close ups when gathering the full emotions of what a character would portray towards the public.

Crime

Hello fellow internet users.

The Killing Season 3 Episode 8.
When analaysing the television Programme The Killing I will be writing about all the different point with a crime programme and the techniques that they uses, I am also going to be analyising the two main characters within the show and write about how they are presented.

When anlaysing the two main characters Linden and Holder I would say that they have used the typical good cop bad cop within this case as they have given the woman character a more motherly approach than where the male character is lot more harsher towards it's suspects. The reason why they have given detective Linden a more softer feel than Holder would be so that she would be able to use her womanly charms to help people feel more settled as she plays the matriarch. This so that the suspects are more likely to open up, for instance if the suspect was to be a male character they would see as her flirting with them.

As Holders approach when trying to finding out information is a lot more stern as he is playing the bad cop in the role, Holder also gives a lot more comical effect to the programme with his sarcastic manner. When questioning people detective Holder uses his aggressive side as an advantage as this can scare people into thinking they need to tell the detective the truth helping solve the case by using the guidance from his partner working together they are able to gather evidence.

Within the programme The Killing it shows throughout the episode that it has one main narrative that explores into further sub narratives. The use of sub narratives within one main narrative creates more of a story so that the audience is more pulled into the character story to find out what happens in the end. As the programme has one main narrative throughout the episode this is spread out within four different plot points, the first point would be finding out about the case to then moving on to gathering evidence and information about the case. The next plot point within the programme would be the catch, the catch is where the detectives feel as if they are accomplishing something and think that they have figured out the case to then being turned round with brand new evidence causing the detective to now look into a different direction. Then finally when the programme reaches it's last plot this shows the audience that the detective have finally come to a realisation on who the actual killer would be causing them to go in for an arrest ending the programme with a conclusion for the public to then wanting to see what happens within the next episode.

When analysing the technical elements when listening to the sound throughout this episode of The Killing would be Non-dietetic sounds as this is used to gain the audience intensest so that they become more apart of the programme as they will be able to feel what the character are felling through the sounds which are being played. Also the audience when watching this episode would be able to see that the filming techniques that they have used would be the use of a steady cam, they have used a steady cam when filming as this gives of a more intense realist feel as if you were there art of the investigation yourself and you can feel moment within the camera shot. The Killing uses shots likes these for when they are filming when they are having to find fast pasting movement for example when the detectives are chancing someone the are able to movement the movement in much more detail. Within this programme they use a lot of close up shots as this way the audience are able to see the characters facial expressions a lot more which would help the audience to know what is happening in greater detail and they have used this as a form of communication. Another technical element to consider when analysing The Killing would be the lighting as the lighting throughout the programme is very dark, this is so that it gives off a more dangerous vibe towards the audience creating tension.
