Soap Opera

Hello fellow internet users.

When analysing an episode of the soap opera Hollyoaks I will be writing about each main character and what place and story line they behold when taking place throughout the episode. I will also be discussing the structure and the technical elements throughout the episode.

When analysing the character in the soap opera Hollyoaks as this this form of programme has many different sub narratives within one main narrative this means that within a small village there are many different families which will tell the audience a different story. Within this episode that I will be analysing I am going to be looking at Lomax family. Within this family you have the main two sisters Leela and Tegan. Leela's character portrays a more dominant side of things as if she was to be in absolute control of every situation with no need to show her feels, where as Tegan's character is more vulnerable causing her to fall for the wrong men in her life as she's a much more weaker character.
Another family that I am going to be writing about would be the Hutchinson family as the charters within this family are Tony Hutchinson and Diane O'Connor. Diane O'connor character is very much portrayed the same way as Tegan Lomax's as she is very gullible and also have a bad past when dating men, she falls for anyone who is kind to her and can be blind when it comes to them lying to her. Diana also plays a very strong character when it comes to her children as she is a motherly person and always want's whats best for her children even if it's wrong. As where Tony Hutchinson can be seen as a weak character an can never do right by Diane and messing up any relationship they could have between each other as they share twins together.

The narrative within this episode is divided by three different point's. The first plot point that has been put into place would where Tony Hutchinson is missing his daughter which was swapped at birth and ia now living with Tegan Lomax, this is where he tries to intrude into the Lomax families life so that he is able to get closer towards Rose. As Tagan is feeling very vulnerable at this point she starts to form an idea into her head that her and Tony want to be together which benefits Tony into the trust of Tegan allowing him to visit his daughter and look after her throughout the day. The character Ziggy Rosco doesn't isn't to keen on the fact that Tony and Tegan are getting closer as he can sense that something is wrong, as Tegan is feeling very  Vulnerable at this point she doesn't believe Ziggy and thinks that Tony and her are great match causing her to fall for the wrong person once again.

The second plot point within this narrative would be when Diana finds out that Tony has been seeing baby Rose behind her back after making an agreement that each family would keep to the child that they have been given and now love. As Diane approaches Tony in a very angry motion causing a ruckus Tony explains that he has a plan where he will be able to get up close with Tegan so that both of them can see Rose whenever they want without anything stopping them.Diane wasn't too sure on the plan at first until she was given the chance to visit Rose for a whole, causing both Diane and Tony talking about giving them two another go whilst in their Local Pub. As Tony goes to place his hands on top of Dianes hands Tegan walking into the pub to go talk to Tony but then ends up having a full blown argument leaving them with never seeing Rose ever again. This causes the audience to be full obtained into the programme to see what would happen next between them as you are able to feel the full passion for their children.

When analysing the third plot point that has been created within this programme it is created to keep the audience on their toes wanting to watch what will happen in the next episode keeping them interested within the act as within a soap opera they don't finish a story line with a conclusion but with a cliff hanger. By doing so They have ended the episode with two different possibility of who could have kidnapped baby Rose when Tegan goes to pick her out of her pram noticing that she is missing.

The technical elements that have been used when creating Hollyoaks would be the use of lighting within the studio, as this is a studio production everything is very well lighten as they would have studio lighting all around the ceiling, this helps the audience to be able to focus on the action and the mood which has been set and they would have full control of how bright or how dark the lighting would be when filming. Other techniques which have been used when filming this programme would be the camera work as everything is all still they are able to gather many different shots such as close ups when gathering the full emotions of what a character would portray towards the public.

Crime

Hello fellow internet users.

The Killing Season 3 Episode 8.
When analaysing the television Programme The Killing I will be writing about all the different point with a crime programme and the techniques that they uses, I am also going to be analyising the two main characters within the show and write about how they are presented.

When anlaysing the two main characters Linden and Holder I would say that they have used the typical good cop bad cop within this case as they have given the woman character a more motherly approach than where the male character is lot more harsher towards it's suspects. The reason why they have given detective Linden a more softer feel than Holder would be so that she would be able to use her womanly charms to help people feel more settled as she plays the matriarch. This so that the suspects are more likely to open up, for instance if the suspect was to be a male character they would see as her flirting with them.

As Holders approach when trying to finding out information is a lot more stern as he is playing the bad cop in the role, Holder also gives a lot more comical effect to the programme with his sarcastic manner. When questioning people detective Holder uses his aggressive side as an advantage as this can scare people into thinking they need to tell the detective the truth helping solve the case by using the guidance from his partner working together they are able to gather evidence.

Within the programme The Killing it shows throughout the episode that it has one main narrative that explores into further sub narratives. The use of sub narratives within one main narrative creates more of a story so that the audience is more pulled into the character story to find out what happens in the end. As the programme has one main narrative throughout the episode this is spread out within four different plot points, the first point would be finding out about the case to then moving on to gathering evidence and information about the case. The next plot point within the programme would be the catch, the catch is where the detectives feel as if they are accomplishing something and think that they have figured out the case to then being turned round with brand new evidence causing the detective to now look into a different direction. Then finally when the programme reaches it's last plot this shows the audience that the detective have finally come to a realisation on who the actual killer would be causing them to go in for an arrest ending the programme with a conclusion for the public to then wanting to see what happens within the next episode.

When analysing the technical elements when listening to the sound throughout this episode of The Killing would be Non-dietetic sounds as this is used to gain the audience intensest so that they become more apart of the programme as they will be able to feel what the character are felling through the sounds which are being played. Also the audience when watching this episode would be able to see that the filming techniques that they have used would be the use of a steady cam, they have used a steady cam when filming as this gives of a more intense realist feel as if you were there art of the investigation yourself and you can feel moment within the camera shot. The Killing uses shots likes these for when they are filming when they are having to find fast pasting movement for example when the detectives are chancing someone the are able to movement the movement in much more detail. Within this programme they use a lot of close up shots as this way the audience are able to see the characters facial expressions a lot more which would help the audience to know what is happening in greater detail and they have used this as a form of communication. Another technical element to consider when analysing The Killing would be the lighting as the lighting throughout the programme is very dark, this is so that it gives off a more dangerous vibe towards the audience creating tension.

Synergy

Hello fellow internet users.

Synergy is the interaction between two or more companies combined to create a music video that will develop a deeper or greater message towards it's audience. Synergy within the media is where two forces such as well known conglomerate companies work together and promote over a wider community throughout different forms of media.

Synergy can be used by using forms of merchandise for example in many musical films they would have a circle of promoting each sector of their product. Such as if the film was a musical the company will then create a sound track so that the audience were able to listen to the songs in the film whenever they wanted to, whether they were at home or in the car. This would also promote the film as when you listen to each song you then think about what since that song is from.

An example of synergy being used within a music video would be Mark Ronson and Katy B with the song Anywhere in the World. How they music video has used the term synergy throughout the song would be how they use the colour red in the clothes that they Mark Ronson is is wearing and the people that are playing the instruments, they have also used the colour red when it comes the the althetes clothing. When people think of the colour red their minds automatically think of the brand Coca cola as it is a world wide brand and also supports the olympics. They have also used synergy when using the olympic colours when it shows the athletes throughout the video, this sends a reminder that everywhere in the world you can be apart of this massive achievement whether you're in England or in China. Whoever you are be apart of the olympics and be fit and health with your participation. With doing so they have also used non digest sound of a ping pong being passed from one paddle to another. Other sounds that they have used would be breathing of when people are kickboxing, this makes the audience feel as if they are part of the olympics. This type of music video shows a lifestyle to the audience, if you're apart of the olympics you can be just like Katy B and Mark Ronson. This form of music video is inspirational and makes people feel as if they want to get up and do something with their lives and be apart of a group, be apart of society.

Sitcom analysis

Hello fellow internet users.

When analysing The Inbertweenters Fashion show episode I will be writing about each character and what family like member the behold, I will also writ about the narrative structure of this particular episode and the technical elements which are show within the programme.

When analysing each character in The Inbertweeners you will have the main character that looks after their so called 'family', so for instance in this series that character would be Will. Will is the new kid at the school that was moved from a private school. He comes across as the mature matriarch of the group, thinking that he is better than everyone else but at the same time he will always stick by the only friend that he has got at their school when he comes to his moral high ground.
Then you have Will's best friend in the group Simon. This character holds more of the father figure of the group as he is the one that will hold everything together when things get tough. Simon's character is very mature and acts upon the ring leader of the group, he is the character with the car so he is always driving everyone everywhere and sometimes get's into trouble as his friends will direct him down the wrong path.
The character Jay is the trouble maker of the group, he is very sarcastic towards his friends especially if someone or something new comes along he will pick on that and will indulge in the comedy of things and will start to make fun of his friends. This makes this character the annoying little brother figure as he is always lying about things that he has done even though all his friends can see through it apart from Neil.
Niel is Jay's best friend, he is the one that will believe all of Jays lies even if they sound ridiculous. Neil is very slow minded and doesn't always understand what everyone is talking about but at the same time he is also the hero of the group as he is the one friend that has gone out there and has done something with an 'actual woman'. This character is seen upon as the cool brother of the group even if he doesn't know how he has come down his current path.

The narrative structure of this particular episode of The Inbertweeners would be that there are two main plot point in the story. The first plot point is about how the school is raising money for a machine that helps people with Kidney failure for St Mary's hospital. The school is raising money by holding a fashion show with all the best looking students in the school modelling for it. Having do so Will does not believe that this is a great way to cause money as he feels that not everyone is able to take part in the project and confronts the student that is in charge of everything finding out that he is an obnoxious student that is doing the show so that he can see all the girls in the school dressed up. This student gets away with his ways as he is in a wheel chair so all the girls think that he is a sweet young gentleman but really he goes out o his way to make Will look as if he is a fool.

The second point in this particular episode would be when Jay wants to be apart of the fashion shows but finds out that he has not been selected and that there are no more places let for him. This causes Jay to go get his ears pierced so that he comes across more model like to the character Carli for the hope that she will make him first on the list if anyone drops out. When Jay finds out that he isn't den first on the list when two of his friends make the modelling line before him he then get's really frustrated as Will didn't want any part of the show in the first place. Towards the end of this episode Simon gets asked to fill in for one of the models as the model was too hairy and would have been too embarrassing to step out on the cat walk half naked. As doing so Simon did not help the matter when he didn't realise that he had one of his balls sticking out of the pants as they were too small and his was more focused on concentrating on the crowed and not the down stairs area.

Plot three of this episode would be the end of the programme when the whole fashion show has finished and all four of the young lads have still found themselves with no luck with the girls that they fancy as Simon ended up embarrassing Carli by hang one of his tesicles sticking out. Will is still seen as the small friend that will get nowhere with the girl from the year above after his past efforts. And Neil ended up attracting his teacher more than the young students that he had rather been dressing for the fashion show ending the whole programme with a closed conclusion that they still have each other after a long day of chasing.

The technical elements that have been used within this programme are how they use the use of non digetic sound throughout the episode depending on what emotions each charter is going through, this helps the audience to interact with characters os that they can feel how Jay is feeling when he finds out that he is not going looking enough to be apart of the fashion show. Or for a good example is how the programme always finishes with an up beat song that helps to control and connect the conclusion together sot hat the audience is left feel happy for the characters that they have each other and their friendship, this is to make the audience feel as if they are part o f that friendship group.

Also other technical elements that have been used throughout tis particular episode of The Inbertweeners would be the different camera shots that they have used throughout, for example they have used shots such as a pan shot so that the audience can get a full sense of the scene. Another shot that they have used would be a crab shot, this is used when lets say one of the characters have walking along so that the camera moves with them.
This lighting though out this programme would be studio lighting as this programme has been filmed inside a set so that they can get the right light for each mood and scene.
